about
English Version:
First come the barrel beaters, the hammering of their mallets on the barrels, their resounding through the deserted streets of the old town. Then comes the hoop swinger, without spilling a drop he lets the wooden hoop swing, the schnapps glass on top. In the end it lands behind his back, in the cap of Kasperl, the joker. Colourful as a scarecrow, he is enthroned in the middle of the scenery on a sheep, forming a ring around him with box wreaths, so the Schäffler circle around him, a plague ribbon each across the chest, with white knee socks, black knee-breeches, apron leather, red jacket and green cap with a white plume. Coopers and coopers, coopers and coopers, barrel makers, simmer makers and barrel makers are their guilds elsewhere, here they are Schäffler. Their shoes are black and they dance to lead people back to the streets, the alleys and the squares. It is the plague that keeps them on the lunge, banished behind lock and key since 1515, and now, in 1517, swept out by the brave barrel makers, challenging a life that wants to be dared. And so it stops, and yet never stops, the circular scene in the Spielwerkserker, at eleven and at twelve and at five o'clock final, the kinematic order with the clanging of bells.
One storey higher, chronologically reversed, in front of it is depicted how nobility binds itself and publicly announces it, so that the whole city knows: Wilhelm the Fifth and Renata of Lorraine, they have found each other, in February 1568 as duke and duke's wife, marrying here on Marienplatz. We see sixteen figures in this scene, when heralds and jesters, fanfare players and pages, standard bearers and moriscos turn and turn again to line the tournament field into which the square is transformed, on which Bavaria and Lorraine fight, a rider must fall, a sacrifice for the husband, when white and blue pushes red and yellow hard from the horse with the lance. Meanwhile the princely couple and their marshal remain motionless. But here Moriscos dance their shell dance, converted Muslims and Moorish springers they may be, when the Cascabeles rattle like jingling bells to the tips of their feet, as only the seeds of dried cherry peppers rattle when shaken.
Eighteen days of marriage, we see them in barely three minutes, as if in a panopticon from the pre-film era, in wax-figure torpor, in the time before film, when film had not yet been invented and there was no cinema. We don't get to see the twilight years of Wilhelm and Renata in monastic piety: celebration and transformation from the henhouse and bathhouse to the world-famous Hofbräuhaus were followed by abdication and renunciation. No, in eternally grinding repetition, a spotlight on the marriage, in an invention to make masses look up, and to watch them look up from above. But the Schäffler Fassschläger, they are not to be seen, in this neo-gothic of nineteen hundred and ten. The ringing bells alone make the dancers turn, as a distraction from the fact that Hauberrisser did not have a vision in his mind when he had the Belfry of Brussels and the New City Hall of Vienna rebuilt here in Munich.

A great compilation that shows not only the uniqueness of krautrock, but above all how inspiring it is to this day. Most of the songs are an inspired move on... In addition, the whole album is great to listen to.
